Well here it January 20th, not only a great moment in time for or country as the transition of power happens peacefully but a true moment in history. I think that it’s one of those moments that everyone will look back on and say I remember where I was when. As Barack Obama has stated the days that lie ahead will not always be smooth and easy going the road will be rocky and the climb will be steep but with the help of the American people behind him I believe we can all help make Change a reality, with out us behind him he’ll be dead in the water. So, get on the bus, as John Dawson wrote many years ago “Whatcha gonna do on the planet today“. The the time to something is now….. NRPS

Well, we’re back from our summer tour. We call it a summer tour but it started in June and ended in October, now that’s a long summer. We started on the East coast went to the West coast and back, then went from the Northeast down South through Florida and then as far West as Texas and back to the Northeast, a lot of miles were put on the bus. Things have been going great with The New Riders (present day economy aside), In the middle of all this touring we found the time to get into the studio and record all the new songs, some we’ve been playing out on the road and some that won’t be heard till the CD comes out early next year, if all goes well. We have a few shows coming up on the East coast in mid-October and early November then we head to the Northwest for our annual after Thanksgiving tour. We have a lot of surprises up our sleeves for that one. In the meantime everyone is staying pretty busy Ronnie’s running his business David is gearing up and will be doing his annual West coast harvest tour with David Nelson and Friends, Michael has released his new CD called We Are All One and has already gotten some great reviews. You can read them on his Reviews page. The CD features some old friends like the late Vassar Clements, Buddy Cage, Melvin Seals, Garth Hudson and Jorma to name a few. Check it out. Johnny and Buddy are doing some Stir Fried gigs and as always Buddy’s hard at work at Jam on 17 on Sirus Radio. We’re looking foward to the up coming shows and the jst announced New Years Eve show at the Silo. More on that and the whole New Years Eve run later. Stay tuned…. NRPS

Here’s a great review by Randi Kent Mattson of Saturday’s Mighty High show.
Wow! What a wonderful festival this was. Held in a little jewel of a park, Vasa Park in Hackettstown, NJ, this festival was one of the best I have been to. Scaled down to an intimate 1,200 – 1,500 people (including about 200 VIP ticket holders) in a beautifully pastoral and appropriately-sized setting, and on a perfect weather day, this was so much fun! The New Riders played from about 1:15 to 2:45 in the afternoon and ripped the roof off as the gorgeous sun and blue sky rippled down through the trees. Their new tunes are just fantastic! [Ghost Train Blues featured a wonderfully down and dirty psychedelic jam, Down the Middle is a gorgeous Nelson vocal, and John Markowsky’s Higher was so totally appropriate! Then, just as the audience had a little chance to catch our collective breaths, do a little shopping and grab a bite to eat, DSO did a Terrapin Nation show that was a killer and made the late afternoon such a dreamy experience. After the DSO set, about 7:30, all attendees but the VIP ticket holders, were gently ushered out and by 8 PM the VIPs went into an indoor area that was actually a big catering hall with a stage at one end, a soundboard in the middle, and a bar in the back, and settled in for a remarkable show by the Zen Tricksters which included a 40 minute encore and ended at midnight. This fest was the big surprise of the season for me and I sincerely hope one that will be around for many years to come. The vibe was excellent–real loosey goosey–and smiles and good will were everywhere. Congratulations to the promoters for really getting it right! I’ll be back, for sure!
PS The Tricksters late show was off the charts, they were also joined a bunch of guest, Rob Barraco, Lisa Mackey, Wendy Lanter, Michael Falzarano and Ronnie Penque furthering the family affair that this whole day was……..NRPS

Well, the bus is on it’s way back east after a whirlwind tour out west. First stop will be Rochester, NY then it’s on to Connecticut for The Gathering Of the Vibes. After a few days off the summer tour will continue into September and beyond. While out west we played three shows in Colorado one in Wyoming, three in California and one in Nevada. In Colorado we played The Fox Theater in Boulder, Quixotes True Blue in Denver and a little town festival in Carbondale which drew the biggest crowd they ever had, about a 1000 people. We also went up to Gillette Wyoming and played the BMW International Rally to about 8000 people. Then we headed to California where we were joined by our friends Moonalice for three shows and ended at The Trinity Tribal Stomp before heading east. The shows with Moonalice were tons of fun, many of our old friends are in the band and stayed around to sit in with us. The first night at The Great American Music Hall Michael’s old partners in crime from Hot Tuna, Jack Cassady and Pete Sears sat in on Wille and the Hand Jive. Then later in the set Barry Sless came out for a bunch of songs and rocked the house. The next night at The Mystic Theater again we were joined by Jack Cassady and Pete Sears and this time G.E. Smith joined in the fun for what many said was the best jam of the tour, Deep Elem Blues. Then after a few more tunes on our own Mark Karan from Rat Dog came out for a few tunes followed by Mr. Sless for a bunch of songs. Both Mark and Barry joined us for the grand finale Take A letter Maria. The four lead guitar attack off Nelson, Cage, Sless and Karan took the roof off the joint, what a night. The last night of the run with the Moonalice gang at Crystal Bay we were joined by Pete, Barry and Roger McNamee for a rockingFriend Of The Devil and Going Down The Road Feeling Bad. To say the west coast was fun would be a bit of an understatement. We can’t wait to get back there in November. Well, I think that about covers it. See ya at the shows…. NRPS
